P2166, P2167 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 1 and 2 Maximum Stop Performance

P2166 code - During in-plant testing, the APP sensors need to be checked to make sure the minimum and maximum values can be reached. APPS 1 has failed to archive the required maximum value during in-plant testing. One trip fault and the code will be stored within five seconds. Engine will only idle.

Default action this DTC the ETC light illuminate, this is a non MIL fault, the Throttle input and vehicle speed are limited.

Diagnostic test P2166 code

Step 1. Check for an active DTC
This DTC is set when the APP sensor values are learned in-plant but do not reach the minimum or maximum voltage range. Diagnose any APP sensor or 5-volt supply DTCs before continuing. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. When the engine is operating, do not stand in direct line with the fan. Do not put your hands near the pulleys, belts or fan. Do not wear loose clothing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury. With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.

Is the DTC active or pending?

Yes, go to step 2.
No, perform the PCM intermittent condition.

Step 2. Accelerator pedal position sensor
With the scan tool perform the ETC RELEARN function. With the scan tool erase DTCs. Start the engine, with the scan tool read DTCs.

Is the DTC active or pending?

Yes, replace the APP sensor. After installation is complete, perform the ETC RELEARN function.
No, test complete.
