P0463 Fuel evel Sensor 1 Circuit High

P0463 Fuel evel Sensor 1 Circuit High - When monitored this code with the ignition on, battery voltage above 10.4 volts, no active fuel level missing message faults. The fuel level sensor signal voltage is above 4.9 volts for more than 16.0 seconds. The MIL light is illuminate.

P0463 Fuel evel Sensor 1 Circuit High

Possible causes P0463 Code

  • Fuel level sensor signal circuit shorted to voltage.
  • Fuel level sensor signal circuit open/high resistance.
  • Fuel level sense return circuit open/high resistance.
  • Fuel level sensor.
  • Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) or Body Control Module (BCM).

Diagnostic test P0463 Fuel evel Sensor 1 Circuit High

Step 1. Check for an active DTC
Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, read DTC.

Is the DTC active or pending?

YES, go to step 2.
NO, perform the the PCM intermittent condition.

Step 2. Check the fuel level signal 1 circuit for a short to voltage
Disconnect the fuel pump module harness connector. Measure the voltage on the fuel level sensor signal circuit at the fuel pump module harness connector.

Is the voltage above 5.1 volts?

YES, repair the fuel level sensor signal circuit for a short to voltage.
NO, go to step 3.

Step 3. Check the fuel level sensor signal circuit for an open/high resistance
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the TIPM or BCM harness connector. Measure the resistance of the fuel level sensor signal circuit between the fuel pump module harness connector and the TIPM/BCM harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

YES, replace the fuel level sending unit.
NO, go to step 4

Step 4. Check the fuel level sense return circuit for an open/high resistance
Measure the resistance of the fuel level sense return circuit between the TIPM/BCM harness connector and the fuel pump module harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

YES, go to step 5.
NO, repair the fuel level sense return circuit for an open or high resistance.

Step 5. Fuel level sensor
Reconnect the TIPM/BCM harness connector. Connect a jumper between the fuel level sensor signal circuit and the fuel level sense return circuit at the fuel pump module harness connector. Turn the ignition on, with the scan tool, read DTC. The P0462-Fuel level sensor 1 circuit low DTC should display as active or pending with the jumper in place

Does the scan tool display as described above?

YES, replace the fuel level sensor.
NO, go to step 6.

Step 6. Check related PCM and component connections
