B1B08-Passanger Airbag squib 1 circuit low

B1B08 code - The Occupant Restraint Contoller (ORC) monitors the resistance of the Passanger squib 1 circuits. The ORC will set this DTC if it detects low resistance on the Passanger squib 1 circuits.

B1B08-PASSANGER AIRBAG SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT LOW

Possible causes B1B08 code:
  • Passanger squib 1 line 2 circuit shorted to ground.
  • Passanger squib 1 line 1 circuit shorted to ground.
  • Passanger Airbag.
  • Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC or Airbag Module).

Diagnostic code B1B08 Passanger Airbag squib 1 circuit low

Step 1. Determine active or stored DTC
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
Turn the ignition on, with the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.

Select active or stored DTC B1B08 code :

Active, go to step 2.
Stored, go to step 4.

Step 2. Check for shorted squib circuits in passanger Airbag
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12 volts battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Disconnect the Passanger Airbag squib connectors. Check connectors, clean and repair as neccesary.
Connect the SRS load tool kit and SRS load tool jumper to the Passanger Airbag squib connectors.

Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before continuing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.

Does the scan tool display code B1B08-Passanger Airbag squib 1 circuit low DTC ?

Yes, go to step 3.
No, Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
Replace the Passanger Airbag. Perform the Airbag system verification.

Step 3. Check Passanger squib 1 line 2 circuit and Passanger squib 1 line 1 circuit for a short to ground
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Disconnect the SRS load tool kit and SRS load tool jumper from the Passanger Airbag squib connectors, disconnect the ORC connector. Check connectors, clean and repair as neccesary.
Connect the SRS load tool adaptor to the ORC connector. Measure the resistance of the Passanger squib 1 line 2 circuit between the SRS load tool adaptor, and measure the resistance of the Passanger Squib 1 line 1 circuit between SRS load tool adaptor.

Is the resistance below 10k ohms and either circuit ?

Yes, repair the Passanger squib 1 circuits with resistance below 10k ohms a short to ground.
No, If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury. Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC).

Step 4. Checking stored or intermittent codes
Diagnose and repair all active codes before diagnosing stored.
With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag system module DTC.

Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the related wiring and connectors for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires, and for broken, bent, pushed out, corroded, and contaminated terminals. Repair as neccesary.
Reconnect all disconnected components and harness connectors.

Turn the ignition on, then reconnect 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

With the scan tool, monitor for active codes while performing the following :
- Wiggle the wiring harness connectors of the related airbag circuit.
- Continuing the test until either a code becomes active or the problem area is isolated.

In the previous steps you have attempted to recreate the conditions responsible for setting the DTC in question/causing the intermittent condition.

Are any active DTC present ?

Yes, perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
No, no problem found at this time. Erase all codes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
