P0201,P0202,P0203,P0204,P0205,P0206 Fuel Injector Circuit

When monitored Fuel Injector Circuit

  • With the engine running.
  • Battery voltage greater than 12.0 volts.
  • Engine speed less than 3000 rpm.
Set conditions:
Any circuit fault that reduces the maximum current flow or the magnitude of the voltage spike.

Demonstration

Default actions:
The MIL light will illuminate.

Possible causes:
  • Fuel injector connector or wiring.
  • Fused ASD relay output circuit open/high resistance.
  • Fuel injector control circuit shorted to ground.
  • Fuel injector control circuit open/high resistance.
  • Fuel injector.
  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Diagnose code P0201,P0202,P0203,P0204,P0205,P0206 Fuel Injector Circuit

Step 1. Check for an active DTC

Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
With the scan tool, read DTC.

Is the DTC active or pending?

Yes, go to step 2.
No, perform the PCM intermittent condition.

Step 2. Fuel injector wiring and connector inspection

Turn the ignition off, verify that the connector is properly connected to the injector. Disconnect the fuel injector harness connector and inspect the wiring and terminals for any condition that would result in a poor conenction. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.

Were any problems found?

Yes, repair as necessary.
No, go to step 3.

Step 3. Check the fused ASD relay output circuit for an open/high resistance

Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the fused ASD relay output circuit in the fuel injector harness connector. Turn the ignition on.

Note: The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

Is the test light illuminated and bright?

Yes, go to step 4.
No, repair the fused ASD relay output circuit for and open or high resistance. If the fuse is found to be blown, check the fused ASD relay output circuit for a short to ground.

Step 4. Check the injector control circuit for a short to ground

Turn the ignition off, disconenct the PCM harness connector. Check for continuity between ground and the injector control circuit at the fuel injector harness connector.

Is there continuity between ground and the injector 1 control circuit?

Yes, repair the injector control circuit for a short to ground.
No, go to step 5.

Step 5. Check the injector control circuit for an open/high resistance

Measure the resistance of the injector control circuit between the fuel injector harness connector and the PCM harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

Yes, go to step 6.
No, repair the injector control circuit for an open or high resistance.

Step 6. Check the fuel injector circuit resistance

Measure the resistance of fuel injector.

Note: The resistance of the fuel injector will vary according to the temperature of the injector coil. Use the table below to determine the resistance range of the injector.

P0201 Fuel Injector 1 Circuit

Is the resistance of the fuel injector within the specified range?

Yes, go to step 7.
No, repalce the fuel injector.
